This has been the best week ever for the Food Network! Why? Because they have been featuring the one delicacy that we can all relate to…a food we all have craved at least once in our lives…Chocolate! It has been hard to pull myself away from the TV when show after show gave me inside information on the best chocolate recipes out there! Yesterday was like a chocolate show marathon…ranging from Rachael Ray to Iron Chef…I was there, taking my notes on how I, too, can make the best chocolate recipes out there.
During Paula Deen’s new show, “Paula’s Party”, I had to pause the TiVo and try out one of her recipes, Frozen Hot Chocolate. I’ve mentioned in mine and Ben’s other blog (Gladd to See You) that Ben has been guzzling down the hot chocolate. Because of this, I had to start my new chocolate adventure with this particular drink. The recipe comes from the quaint dessert shop in NYC called Serendipity. Many of you have seen the movie with Kate Beckinsale and John Cusack. Angie, Vicki, and I had the opportunity to share a dessert there while on our adventurous NYC trip. Every dessert there is HUGE and can be split they say by two…but I say by three at least! So, this Frozen Hot Chocolate recipe is also quite monstrous and can be poured into one big ice-cream type bowl with two straws to share, or can be poured into two or more smaller glasses. It’s up to you!
So here the recipe goes…
Frozen Hot Chocolate (adapted from Paula Deen)
3 oz melted chocolate (melted on very low heat or double boiler)
1.5 tablespoons sugar
2 tsp hot chocolate mix
1-1/2 cups milk
3 cups ice
Mix the melted chocolate, sugar and hot cocoa mix in saucepan while still on very low heat.
Once mixed, remove from heat, stir in 1/2 cup milk
Cool in fridge for about 10 minutes.
Place 3 cups of ice in blender and pour chocolate mixture over ice.
Liquify for about 5 seconds.
Pour remaining 1 cup milk into blender.
Mix until liquified and all ice chunks are blended.
Pour into glass, top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings!
