Horse Cupcakes from Hello! Cupcake

DSC_4626

My friend, Stephanie, and I hosted a hat decorating party on Thursday. We sent out invitations to some of our girlfriends to come over and decorate hats to wear to ladies day at the Arlington horse races on September 6th. Stephanie and I made a bunch of food for this party, and it was my […]

Leftover Chicken Salad Sandwich

DSC_4581

I cooked up some chicken and had some leftover for lunch the next day. So, I just whipped up a quick chicken salad sandwich by adding mayo and some spices. I served it on some leftover toasted hamburger buns. Not bad… for being so fast and cheap!

The Lovebirds

DXW3833

Ben and I had a photo session done because we never had engagement pictures and we didn’t really get many good photos of us at our wedding. So, some friends of ours gave us a photo session as a gift. Nancy Beale was the photographer…right out of Chicago. She and her fiance, David Wittig, do […]

Lou Mitchell’s [Chicago, IL]

IMG_3795

This weekend six girlfriends and I celebrated our friend’s 30th birthday in Chicago. We saw Jersey Boys and had dinner at Cafe Ba Ba Reeba. Later, we enjoyed the Chicago nightlife then spent the night at the Hyatt Regency on Michigan Ave. It was a terrific day, especially the weather. The Chicago Air and Water […]

Ground Turkey Casserole

DSC_4436

When my sister was in town, we bought some ground turkey. It was on sale, so we bought a few packages. I do not have much experience cooking with ground turkey, so I headed to AllRecipes to find a meal. I needed something quick and easy, and something where the ingredients were all on hand. […]

Blueberry Crumb Bars

DSC_4573

I originally saw the link to this recipe from Good Things Catered where Katie made her own alterations. She found the recipe on Smitten Kitchen, which linked to the original on AllRecipes. I used the recipe as it was listed on Smitten Kitchen and WOW these were good! We were bringing a dessert to two […]

Amano Chocolate Giveaway

DSC_4407

Yes, another giveaway from BlakeMakes. And, yes, more chocolate! This is definitely MY summer! Amano’s chocolate came in the mail a few months ago…actually while we were on vacation in May. Since we were away, I asked my friend to pick it up at our doorstep and keep it at her home until we returned. […]

More TCHO Chocolate! What a Surprise!

DSC_4421

If you remember, back in March I received free TCHO Chocolate as a giveaway on Blake Makes. To my surprise, I received another flavor of their chocolate bar in the mail a few days ago. The wonderful people at TCHO (pronounced “cho”) followed up with an email and a letter asking for some more feedback […]

Tomato & Mozzarella Salad

DSC_4238

I make this salad all of the time, but never even thought about posting it. Of course, I shouldn’t assume that everyone knows this concoction already. Heck, I didn’t even know about ANY food only four years ago! So, here’s my favorite salad…using mainly tomatoes and mozzarella. Just dice up the two ingredients, then splash […]

Crab Feast! (Open-Face Crab and Artichoke Melts)

IMG_3728

We spent this weekend in Maryland, with Ben’s family. They decided to have a crab feast Saturday night. It was my first experience, and I’ve got to say, it was a lot of fun but I’d rather someone else pick through the crab for me. It can be pretty disgusting! The guys didn’t seem to […]

Dark Chocolate Chip Scones

DSC_4392

Once again, we had company in town this past week, so I wanted to make something to have in the kitchen for breakfast besides cereal. Since we’ve had so many visitors this summer, we’ve been eating out often and spending a lot of money on activities. So, I wanted to find a recipe that was […]

Red Velvet Cupcake Pops

DSC_4303

I saw these cupcake pops *months* ago on Bakerella’s blog, then saw them featured on Martha Stewart. Every weekend I said I would make these, and every weekend passed without making them. So, finally, this last weekend I had my chance. We had a garage sale, and I wanted to bake something to sell… so […]

Overnight BLT Salad

DSC_4229

As you can tell by now, I like to make recipes that are very simple, fast, and include basic ingredients. You can’t really go more basic than a BLT. (Unless, of course, you have a famous “wish” sandwich I was introduced to during my college years… Basically two pieces of bread with mayo spread in […]

Another Foodbuzz Perk

DSC_4041

I received another surprise in the mail the other day from my friends at Foodbuzz. Ever since I signed up to be one of their Featured Publishers, I’ve received quite a few fun little perks. The first perk was a $250 check in the mail right after signing up! It was a surprise for us […]

Florentine Turkey Meat Loaf

DSC_4228

Monday, I was sitting at my desk at work and thinking about my grocery list. When I grocery shop, I always go right after work because the Meijer store is right next door to my company and there is not one close to our house. I prefer Meijer for a few reasons: 1- My dad […]

Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes

DSC_4201

We had game night Tuesday night, and I promised to make dessert. Since our friends were in town all weekend and left Monday morning, I was extremely exhausted and didnt’ really have time to make anything too difficult or involved. One of the blogs I frequent, Annie’s Eats, usually has some pretty quick and easy […]

Stuffin’ Egg Muffin

DSC_4048

As I mentioned in the previous post, we had friends visiting from out of town this past weekend. I made the Daring Bakers danish bread for breakfast one morning, but we had a few more breakfasts to go! Well, lucky for me and our guests, I got an excellent recipe idea from one of my […]

Pastry Cream

This is my go-to recipe for pastry cream or custard.  I use it in the Paczki, Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes and Danish.  It’s perfectly flavorful and smooth. Pastry Cream Printable Recipe 2 cups milk 1/4 cup white sugar 2 egg yolks 1 whole egg 1/4 cup cornstarch 1/3 cup white sugar 2 Tablespoons butter, cubed […]

Daring Bakers Danish Braid

DSC_4180

This month’s Daring Bakers challenge was definitely a challenge for me. I’m in a hurry to get ready for church right now, but wanted to post the recipe, and photos will come later. Check out the Daring Bakers blogroll in the meantime for others’ awesome photos and ideas for fillings. **UPDATE** Okay, yes, it’s now […]

Strawberry Cupcakes

DSC_3946

If I can promise anything with a 100% guarantee, it is that you will love these cupcakes (if you like strawberries). This is another flavor of cupcakes I made for Ben’s graduation party and his cupcake tower. And, this is actually going to be the last cupcake recipe from his party that I’ll post because […]

Chocolate Cupcakes

DSC_3480

As promised, here is one of the cupcake recipes I used for Ben’s graduation party. A cupcake buffet is not complete without a chocolate cupcake, and I decided to use Williams-Sonoma’s recipe from their website. I noticed that a few other food bloggers like the Williams-Sonoma recipes, so I figured I couldn’t go wrong. Well, […]
