Dark Chocolate Chip Scones

DSC_4392

Once again, we had company in town this past week, so I wanted to make something to have in the kitchen for breakfast besides cereal. Since we’ve had so many visitors this summer, we’ve been eating out often and spending a lot of money on activities. So, I wanted to find a recipe that was […]

Another Foodbuzz Perk

DSC_4041

I received another surprise in the mail the other day from my friends at Foodbuzz. Ever since I signed up to be one of their Featured Publishers, I’ve received quite a few fun little perks. The first perk was a $250 check in the mail right after signing up! It was a surprise for us […]

Pastry Cream

This is my go-to recipe for pastry cream or custard.  I use it in the Paczki, Boston Cream Pie Cupcakes and Danish.  It’s perfectly flavorful and smooth. Pastry Cream Printable Recipe 2 cups milk 1/4 cup white sugar 2 egg yolks 1 whole egg 1/4 cup cornstarch 1/3 cup white sugar 2 Tablespoons butter, cubed […]

Chocolate Cupcakes

DSC_3480

As promised, here is one of the cupcake recipes I used for Ben’s graduation party. A cupcake buffet is not complete without a chocolate cupcake, and I decided to use Williams-Sonoma’s recipe from their website. I noticed that a few other food bloggers like the Williams-Sonoma recipes, so I figured I couldn’t go wrong. Well, […]

The Baking Beauties

DSC_3340

Wow.. time flies. I still need to add my recipes for the cupcakes from Ben’s party, but before I do that, I realized I have not yet posted about a give-away I won a few months ago! Yes… I said a few months ago… yikes. I stumbled across another food blog, and just in time! […]

May Daring Bakers

With Ben’s graduation, our vacation, my Wilton class, volleyball, visits from friends and family… I was not able to do this month’s Daring Baker’s challenge. Take a look at the Daring Baker’s blogroll to see everyone’s creations. The recipe this month was Opéra Cake.

On Vacation

main+street+inn

I won’t be posting again for a while. We are on vacation in Hilton Head Island, SC. It’s beautiful here! We left Saturday and will return home either next Sunday or Monday (Memorial Day). I meant to post about my absence before we left, but didn’t find the time…so now while I’m waiting for Ben […]

I’ve Been “Glanced”!

Scan10002

(Click photo to read article) Our Wheaton/Glen Ellyn Glancer magazine magazine, published monthly, featured me as the “Lovable Local” in their May issue! My friend, Jamie, from Memories Illustrated called me and told me the article was published. After going a few days without receiving my copy in the mail, Jamie gave me her’s then […]

Wilton Level 1 Cake Decorating Class – Week 2

IMG_3441

I signed up with a co-worker, Margie, to take the Wilton cake decorating (level 1) class this month at Joann Fabrics. It’s a four-week class and teaches the basics of cake decorating, making your own decorating icing, and creating the famous Wilton flower. Easy peasy, right? Well…almost. Once we get to class, it’s fun and […]

Penny Pincher: April 29 or May 15- Eat Chicken Free at McD’s!

chicken-sand

McDonald’s now has a chicken sandwich that is very comparable to Chick-Fil-A! Since we do not have Chick-Fil-A anywhere near us, we were extremely anxious to try out this new Southern-Style Chicken Sandwich. We went through Wheaton’s drive-thru yesterday after church, ordered our sandwiches, then noticed an unbelievable sign on the window that said: “Tuesday, […]

Guest Post: Dr. Ben on Milkshakes

Waitress Carrying Chocolate Milkshake with Whipped Cream

[From Nikki]: I haven’t had much time to cook/bake blog-worthy recipes lately, so I asked my husband, Ben, to serve as a guest writer and post about his expertise…milkshakes. Anytime we go out to eat, Ben searches the menu to see if the restaurant offers a milkshake. I’ve learned, from observation, that he has acquired […]

We’re Bored Cupcakes

DSC_3189

Ben and I were in Tennessee visiting a couple of our best friends for the weekend. One couple is pregnant with their first child (it’s a girl!) and both couples have new homes. So, it was a lot of fun to see Kristin’s pregnant belly and see the new homes. One evening us three gals […]

Two Saturdays ago I hosted a introduction party for my friend, Jamie’s, new business called Memories Illustrated. I have posted about her business before and how much I love her work. She creates handmade notecards, recipe cards, business cards, and comic illustrations of memorable events. Anyone can custom order pretty much anything for these products, […]

Hello, Cupcake!

DSC_3006

I bought a new book this weekend that I’m pretty excited about. Ben and I were at Barnes & Noble, and it caught my eye. What’s even more exciting is that this same book was featured on Martha Stewart today! That means I have good taste! I can’t wait to learn some good tricks and […]

Ham and Cheese Turnovers

DSC_2727

Two weeks ago when my in-laws were in town, I made the panini’s for a quick lunch before we headed to Madison. At the end of the weekend (after they went home) we had some leftover ham and cheese slices, so I made us some turnovers. It was nice to have a quick and easy […]

Caramelized Onions and Apples with Sausages

DSC_2888

Ben emailed me at work today and told me he invited friends over for dinner. Good thing I had my meal plan organized for the week! Even though I was planning on eating leftovers tonight and having this meal tomorrow, I’m extremely glad we made it tonight and had friends here to share this delicious […]
