Use these individual pies in a jar as placeholders and a Thanksgiving table favor. Each guest can take home their jars of pie to bake at home.

Thanksgiving place setting with feather head band and name holderFor Thanksgiving, I made these mini pies in a jar as placeholders that doubly served as table favors for my guests to take home. Although I didn't have time to order the exact jars I wanted to use, I was able to call around and find another brand that worked equally as well from a local grocery store. My jars were a bit shorter and more squatty, yet they were adorable.

We hosted a Friendsgiving, and although I was about to pop (8 months pregnant) I had the best time cooking and creating in the kitchen!

short quatty jarsWhen looking for jars to use, make sure they are 8 oz jars with wide mouth lids. Pick a pie recipe that you love (I used my favorite apple pie recipe).  Fill the base of each jar with the pie crust by just pressing the crust on the bottom and up the sides.  No real method to it!  Then, scoop in your filling and top with crust if you desire.  You can also use a crumb topping.  I ran out of crust to cover each one in full (I made 10) and didn't have time to make more, so I used my miniature deco-cutters to create little flower tops with the remaining crust that I did have.

pie in a jarDecorate the lids as you wish. I used autumn themed scrapbook paper I had on hand and traced out circles with the lids.  Then, I wrote the name of each guest and glued it to the top.  For the finishing touch, I tied bows around each jar with gold ribbon.

The best part about these pie jars is that they can be kept frozen and then popped right into the oven when ready to eat!  Just place the jars on a baking sheet and let set in oven while preheating to 350˚F (so it warms up slowly).  Then once it reaches 350°F, bake for 45 more minutes.  I topped mine with vanilla ice cream and it was incredible!
