One of our favorite restaurants for burgers right now is Red Robin. Ben and I share our fave burger as the Whiskey River BBQ Burger. We also both like the Banzai Burger, which is layered with pineapple and teriyaki.
Tonight, we kept it cheap and simple with grilling angus burgers that were on a "One-Day Special" at the local grocery store. To spice it up a bit, I tried to mock the Whiskey River BBQ burger minus a few ingredients.
I didn't want to go out and buy a bunch of stuff, so I used what was on hand. We have a bottle of Famous Dave's Rich & Sassy BBQ sauce that I slathered on top of the grilled burgers. Then, I layered a little of the sauce on the bottom bun. On top of that, I layered some crispy french fried onions and topped the burger with lettuce. The original Whiskey burger has mayo, cheese and tomatoes; however, Ben didn't want mayo, we were all out of cheese, and neither one of us remembered that tomatoes were on it (even though I had a tomato). So, we ate it with just the sauce, lettuce and fried onions... and it was GOOD. So good that I'm not sure I can eat a regular burger with ketchup again! And for those of you who know me well... you know how much I love ketchup!
The picture is bad...but I hate doing posts without pics. Why don't you share your favorite burger recipes?

The red onion jam sounds interesting.

I'm having trouble with links today. Basically, you go on marthastewart.com and do a recipe search for hamburgers and choose the results that were featured on the television show. It's the one with red onion jam. I should have just sent you an email. 🙂

Um, this isn't a recipe but I like burgers with bacon, cheese, tomato, and guacamole. Had one in San Diego and realized what a good combination all of those things are.
Last year on Martha's talk show she had a series of the "best of" things-brownies, burgers, etc. I'll try to find a link for you. We didn't have a grill at the time so I didn't try any of the recipes, but now I think I will . . . Thanks for reminding me. 🙂
