Seeded At The Table

Sharing joy through food, community and travel.

February 20, 2013

Important News!!

(UPDATE 2/22/13:  This post was originally published on Pennies on a Platter.  You are now looking at the new website!) 🙂

change aheadHey everyone! In recent posts, I slightly teased you with little mentions of upcoming changes to Pennies on a Platter.  Today I am finally ready to tell you exactly what is happening behind the scenes and the changes you should expect to see in the next few days.

This is what’s happening:  I am re-branding.

That being said, let’s go through some of the questions you may have:

What does this mean? This means, as of this weekend (sometime on Feb 22-23), Pennies on a Platter will no longer be the website you see when you visit.  Instead, I have a new title/name, URL, and logo.  The new site is called Seeded at the Table.  Here’s my new logo.  You like?  🙂

satt_screen_medium

Why are you re-branding?  In the last two or so years, I lost my initial passion of writing about frugal cooking, which is how Pennies on a Platter was birthed over six years ago.  SIX years!  🙂  We had a great journey, but as my life changed over the years and my family grew, I found my enthusiasm shifted to new desires for this little writing space of mine.

Is “Seeded at the Table” a food blog?  Yes!  Absolutely!  I still love blogging about food.  It will definitely be a food blog and I will continue to post new recipes and photos.  I will also add in more travel posts, family posts, life posts, etc.  But, food will still be the overarching theme…and probably always.

Where can I find my favorite recipes from Pennies on a Platter?  All of the content from Pennies on a Platter will transfer over to the new Seeded at the Table blog.  All Pennies on a Platter URL’s will redirect to the new URL’s on Seeded at the Table for that specific recipe or blog post.  So, for example, if you have a recipe post bookmarked on Pennies on a Platter, when you click on that bookmark after this Friday, you will be automatically redirected to that same recipe, but on Seeded at the Table.  Does this make sense?  In other words, you will still be able to find your favorite recipes very easily.

satt social mediaWill there be a Seeded at the Table Facebook page?  Yes.  In fact, you can start “Liking” it now by clicking here.  Unfortunately, Facebook rules do not allow for me to just change the name and URL of my current Pennies on a Platter fan page, so if you want to continue receiving updates via my Facebook fan page, then you will need to “Like” the new Seeded at the Table page.  I’m pretty bummed about it, because I have a good Facebook following and do not want to lose you.  But, along with change comes some sacrifice.  Here’s hoping you will click on over and give me a “Like” on my new page! 🙂  And, yes, I did just include the link to it three times in just this one paragraph.  🙂  I’m really hoping you come over and “Like” it!

What about Twitter and Instagram?  If you already follow me on Twitter and Instagram, then no further action is required.  As of Friday or Saturday, I will change the current username to “seededtable” for both of those social media apps.  Just don’t get confused when you no longer see me as my old username.  Start practicing seeing “seededtable” on your newsfeed now… “seededtable”…. “seededtable“… “seededtable”.  😉  There!  It’s engrained! lol!

For those of you who do not yet follow me on Twitter or Instagram, then what are you waiting for? 😉  Oh!  Let’s not forget about the new Vine app either!  Same thing, I’ll just switch the username this weekend.

What will happen to the recipes I pinned on Pinterest from Pennies on a Platter?  Again, all URL’s will redirect to the appropriate post on Seeded at the Table.  So, if you previously pinned the Pennies on a Platter recipe post for White Cheese Dip, when you click on it from Pinterest, it will automatically redirect to that same recipe post on Seeded at the Table.  Easy peasy! 🙂  And, while we’re talking Pinterest, you can follow me and my crazy pins by clicking here.

I currently subscribe by email to Pennies on a Platter, will I still receive email updates from Seeded at the Table? This is the tricky part.  The answer is “yes” but you will need to take action.  Once the new site launches, you will need to re-enter your email address into the “Daily Recipe Updates” field.  I will send another reminder once the new site is live when you can use this new field.

Will new posts on Seeded at the Table show up in my RSS reader?  You will need to resubscribe in order to view published posts in your RSS reader from Seeded at the Table. You can do that now by clicking here.

I hope you’re as excited as I am about this new journey we’re going on together!  🙂  If you have more questions, please feel free to leave a comment below or send me an email at my new email address: seededtable [at] gmail.com.  Sometime next week, after the new blog is launched, I will publish another post with an introduction and quick tutorial on the new features of the site that might answer even more of your questions.  I’ll even introduce you to my awesome web developer who not only designed my new logo and website, but is also taking care of all of the behind the scenes techy “stuff”.  Until then, pray everything goes smoothly this weekend with the transition and I hope to see you on the other side! 😉

One more thought that just hit me:  This is my last time publishing a post on Pennies on a Platter.  This emotional pregnant mama may have just teared up a bit.  xoxo!

This is wonderful news, Nikki! I know you’ve been thinking about this for a while and I can’t wait to see the changes!! Congrats!!

PS – As for pinning, I did the same thing (automatically redirecting URLs) and all of my pins did redirect, HOWEVER, some pins will send pinners/readers first to a Pinterest warning page (warning them that they are being redirected to a new site). Pinners/readers can click continue and go on to correct URL, but I have found that the warning does scare some people. Overall, it hasn’t been a big deal but I just thought you might want to be aware!

Awesome! I’ve been wondering for awhile if you would take this step since it seems like a logical step. Look forward to seeing the progress! I can’t help but think I had a small part in your start with food blogging. Remember the Xanga site we had where we shared a login to share recipes? Way before food blogging was popular? Anyway–miss you guys! Love you!
