This Week on Pennies on a Platter
This section highlights the recipes posted this week on Pennies on a Platter and other updates to the blog, if any.

Quinoa and Black Bean Salad - Another attempt at staying healthy.  Quinoa goes southwestern.

Parmesan Breadsticks - Make Pizza Hut breadsticks at home!

Seven-Layer Bars - Also known as Magic Bars, these have been Ben's favorite dessert since childhood and now a new favorite of mine!

Dug Out from the Archives
Let's dig into the archives and reconsider some of the older recipes on Pennies on a Platter that we ate this week. (Some of which I plan to re-post with new photos and better directions in the near future.)

Peanut Butter M&M Cookies - A last minute decision to have friends over for game night means having to dig out a cookie recipe where all ingredients are on hand.  This was the perfect choice.

Tropical Pizza - We had to use up our pineapple-mango salsa before it went bad.  <Shucks!>  🙂

Caught My Eye
I love reading other blogs and websites, and often bookmark their recipes, products or reviews. These are a few that top my list from the week.

Outdoor Cinema Food Fest - I'm always on the lookout for new things to do around here, and very excited about this one.  The Outdoor Cinema Food Fest is hosted at different Los Angeles parks throughout the summer, and features a concert followed by a movie.  You can bring a picnic dinner or order food from various food trucks parked nearby.  Sweet!  I'm thinking we'll hit it up the night they show Indiana Jones.

Mom*tog - Want to learn more about everyday photography in your home, of your family?  Drew, a mom of an adorable boy, authors a blog at Mom*tog in order to share photography tips and tricks.  Her website also encourages interaction between other moms who are interested in learning more about photography.  I love this idea!

My Life as a Pastor's Wife and Food Blogger
Want more insight into my life as a Pastor's wife, mom, friend, relative and food blogger? Then, read on! If not, ignore this section. 🙂 This is a place for me to write what's on my mind and journal some of the crowning moments of my week.

Last weekend, Ben and I joined other families in our church to experience something that is a big part of the culture here in the desert of Southern California - off roading.  Thirty-plus people pack into thirteen trucks/jeeps and headed about an hour away to ride the trails of Rattlesnake Canyon for the day.  It was a very fun event and I can't wait to go out again!  And, if you can believe it, I drove most of the time.  (My way of avoiding car sickness.)  🙂  Below are a few photos from the day (including the one above):

Off Road3Yes, there were cows in the middle of the road...

Off Road5

Trying some Indian chewing gum. Naturally "minty".

Off Road2

That's me!  I should probably open my eyes.

Off Road1

Thankfully, we made it through.  What a fun day!
