Oven Baked French Fries

dsc_6758

The original recipe is actually Baked Meyer Lemon Fries, but I love french fries so much that I usually can’t wait long enough for the extra step in mixing the extra seasonings!  I’m sure it’s worth the short wait, but once I take the fries out of the oven and smell their tempting deliciousness, it’s […]

Prosciutto Mozzarella Pinwheels

dsc_67751

Even though this is listed as a “kids recipe” in Giada de Laurentiis’ book “New Italian Favorites”, I thought it was a great weeknight meal for me and Ben.  Last week was a successful meal planning week and this was one of those dinners.  Ben loved this, and I ate it for lunch the next […]

TCHO “Citrus” Chocolate

dsc_5686

This is my favorite flavor of TCHO Chocolate so far.  I just savored this batch instead of trying to incorporate it into a recipe.  The chocolate has just a hint of a citrusy flavor that leaves you with a bit of a fresh taste in your mouth.  I could eat this forever!

Today I was telling my co-worker what a klutz I am in the kitchen.  Now I have a photo to prove it.

Bacon Cracker Appetizers

dsc_6638

This is PW’s Holiday Bacon Appetizer, which she recalls as a flashback to 1981.  Me?  I was maybe one year old, depending on what part of the year she’s referring, so I don’t remember these nor have I ever had them in the following 27 years.  Which is great, because this recipe was new to […]

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake

dsc_6738

Happy Birthday, Stacey!  Today is my good friend’s 30th birthday.  She and her husband co-lead small group with us on Wednesday’s, so we take turns hosting.  This last Wednesday was our turn to host, so I used it as an opportunity to surprise Stacey with this Chocolate Peanut Butter cake.  I’ve been waiting to make […]

Peanut Butter Frosting

I used two batches of this frosting on the Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake I made Wednesday for a friend’s 30th birthday.  My husband can’t wait for me to use this again on chocolate cupcakes! Peanut Butter Frosting (Ina Garten) 1 cup confectioners’ sugar 1 cup creamy peanut butter 5 tablespoons unsalted butter, at room temperature […]

Dog Treats

nik-snack

That’s Annie.  Isn’t she cute?  She belongs to our good friends, Stephanie and Brian.  Looks like she might be enjoying that snack! I made dog treats for my sister’s dog, Zack, to include in her housewarming goody box (along with the granola bars and pumpkin bread).  This recipe made a ton of treats (too many […]

Homemade Granola Bars

dsc_6687

My older sister moved this weekend for a new job.  I wanted to send her and her adorable dog a little something to welcome them into their new home.  Since I had the day off work Monday for MLK, Jr. Day, I used it as my opportunity to spend a lot of time in the […]

Chocolate Crinkles

These are one of my sister’s favorite cookies and now I think they are becoming one of mine.  I was craving these all week and finally made them the other day.  I only made one batch and saved the rest of the batter to make 2 1/2 more batches today.  One of the reasons I […]

Cheese Potato Cakes

dsc_6470

It’s been so cold here, that the last thing I want to do is hop in my car and go to the grocery store.   So, I’ve been trying to make do with the items already in my pantry.  I had some noodles, cream of mushroom soup and hamburger on hand, so I whipped up a […]

Penny Pincher: New Restaurants Grand Opening

meatheads_logo

After church today we ate at a new restaurant in town called Meatheads.  It’s a fast food burgers and fries joint… think In & Out.  The fries are made fresh right when you order them…from the stack of potatoes they have piled behind the counter. Our meal for two only came to $5.37 because we […]

Peanut Butter Cookies

dsc_6435

There are nights when I just randomly make something for no particular reason.  Yesterday, after work, I took a power nap and woke up craving peanut butter cookies.  I mentioned it to Ben and then just passed it off and didn’t do anything to satisfy my craving.  About an hour later, Ben asked me, “aren’t […]

Pasta with Roasted Cauliflower, Arugula & Prosciutto

dsc_6357

Over Christmas, my motheri-in-law gave me her January 2009 edition of Fine Cooking magazine.  She told me she bought the magazine for only one recipe, the one on the back cover.  As I flipped through the pages, I saw many many recipes I wanted to try, but guess which one I tried first?  The one […]

Penny Answers: Biscuit Recipe

penny-in-pink2

On the Penny page, Mama Bear asked “I was craving biscuits tonight while making dinner (butter chicken over rice) and would love your best biscuit recipe, if you don’t mind sharing!” Well, Mama Bear, yesterday I posted these Cheesy Garlic Biscuits that are fantastic.  I made them just for you, in fact, so that I […]

Cheesy Garlic Biscuits (Does Red Lobster ring a bell?)

dsc_64181

Growing up, if my parents were to go to Red Lobster, it was a treat.  As a child, though, I would say “yuck!” because I couldn’t even stand the smell of seafood.  To this day, I’m still not the biggest fan of seafood, but I’m finding that it’s because I grew up in an area […]

Monkey Bread

dsc_6378

My parents visited from Michigan this weekend to celebrate our Christmas.  They arrived New Years’ Day and were going to stay until today, but they ended up leaving last night because an ice storm was in the forecast for today in Michigan. The first morning they were here, I made some Monkey Bread with my […]
