My husband surprised me last week for my 30th birthday. He sent me back to Chicago to spend the weekend with my girlfriends. I didn’t know about it until the day before my flight! Little did I know, my girls back home had been planning this with him since before we even moved. Love it!
All that to say, I was fully intending on having this recipe and others posted by now, but everything was delayed for my super fun filled weekend. We saw Shrek the Musical in the city, got a facial (awesome!), had a surprise party with a delicious 3-layered chocolate cake, dinner at Italian Village, church with my old congregation, pool party in the hot sun, visit to the farmers’ market and a grilling party to close it out. It was very rejuvenating!
Now back to the baby food! Applesauce is super simple to prepare for your baby. Plus, while you’re at it, you might as well whip some up for you and the rest of your family! I’ll be honest, it is always hard for me to refrain from eating all of the applesauce instead of freezing it for Judah. It’s just so yummy!
You can puree the apples after they’re cooked, or chop them in the food processor instead. Depends on the consistency you prefer. I’m currently working my way towards chunkier applesauce with Judah.
If you pick the right brand of apples, applesauce can stand on its own with no extra spices. Nonetheless, I still add a pinch of cinnamon to take it a step further. Judah loves it.
apples (I prefer Braeburn, Red Delicious, or Honeycrisp)
Peel and dice the apples, then place in a large saucepan. Toss in a pinch of cinnamon.
Bring the apples to a boil over medium heat. Lower heat and simmer until the apples are soft (about 10 – 15 minutes).
Puree or chop in a blender or food processor. Serve when cooled or store in preferred freezer containers.
