I first made cookie dough egg rolls YEARS ago. Here's how the story goes. I ate my first cookie dough egg roll during college at a small local bistro in Nashville. After I married and moved to Chicago, I could not stop thinking about them! So, I recreated the recipe and started making them at home.

ice cream with fried egg roll and chocolate caramel sauces

Ingredients for this Recipe

This recipe whips up an eggless chocolate chip cookie dough, sealed it in an eggroll wrapper then flash fried in a skillet. I top mine with a healthy scoop of vanilla ice cream and finish it off with a drizzle of caramel and hot fudge sauces.  Can somebody give me an "A-men!?" Gather these ingredients:

Grocery List for Cookie Dough Egg Rolls:

  • Unsalted butter (½ cup)
  • Brown sugar (½ cup)
  • Granulated sugar (¼ cup)
  • All-purpose flour (1 cup)
  • Vanilla (1 tsp)
  • Chocolate chips (¾ cup)
  • Egg roll wrappers (6 ct.)
  • Veggie oil (for frying)
  • Chocolate syrup (or hot fudge sauce)
  • Caramel syrup (optional)

How to make cookie dough egg rolls:

It's super easy...just take a look at the photo tutorial:

chocolate chip cookie dough wrapped into egg roll wrapper

  1. Mix cookie dough ingredients in a mixing bowl until dough forms.
  2. Place scoopful of cookie dough in center of each egg roll wrapper.
    brushing egg roll with water
  3. Brush edges of wrapper with water and seal around cookie dough.
  4. Heat oil in skillet.
  5. Fry egg rolls for about 10 seconds on each side.
frying egg roll then drained on paper towel
  6. Drain on paper towel lined plate.
  7. Serve warm with ice cream and syrups.

Recipe Variations

Other cookie dough flavors. You can use any eggless cookie dough recipe, but chocolate chip is my favorite!

Finger food version. Try making smaller appetizer sized desserts with wonton wrappers.  I've never tried it, but I can visualize this finger food variation dunked in your favorite dessert sauce.

Endless toppings. Don't limit yourself to only chocolate and caramel syrups! Add your favorite ice cream sundae toppings like sprinkles, chocolate shavings, whipped cream, a cherry!

My brother came over to make me stir fry for lunch today, and I wanted to do some kind of dessert to go along with the "Asian" theme. These fit the bill since they were "eggrolls". LOL They were quick and easy and we loved them! Thanks for the great recipe.

I just made these and they were quick and fun to make. But, with using only 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup white sugar, mine tasted to sweet, almost like pure sugar and could not even finish it.

Wow, cookie dough anything is great, but fried?! Wow. My favorite is blueberry spoonable ice cream topping. Can't pass up antioxidants. Well, sometimes I can and then it's caramel, ooey, gooey, sticky, scrumptious caramel with a sprinkle of sea salt on top. My kind of sundae.

      Hi Brandi,
Yes, you can use premade cookie dough and it will taste great. I make my own in order to leave out the unnecessary ingredients such as eggs and baking soda, however, the eggs in Pillsbury cookie dough are dried and pasteurized so you should be fine. 🙂

I've been obsessed with the chocolate Magic Shell since I tried this miracle of a topping at "the cool kid down the street's" house in Texas in 1998 or so. I'll throw it on anything and everything cold and sweet, but usually that ends up being ice cream. Even better, I haven't found a single flavor of ice cream upon which I do not enjoy it.

JACKSON'S!!!!! 🙂 I live in Nashville and the cookie dough egg roll at Jackson's is just about the best thing ever. Right out of college, I tried to make them at home and nearly caught my apartment on fire because I had never fried anything before! Now that I am slightly more mature and hopefully a better cook, I will try again thanks to your recipe!

I'll go on and enter the contest too - chocolate magic shell is the best. 🙂

I love the ease of the squirtable sundae syrups, and butterscotch is a versatile one we keep in our refrigerator a lot. Caramel is another good one. My son loves to make wonton apple bundles in the fondue pot and drizzle them with syrup before he eats them. Yum!

I love their marshmallow topping. I used to get a s'mores parfait at a local ice cream shop that incorporated vanilla ice cream, marshmallow, and chocolate topping with graham cracker nestled in between. They stopped making it and I had to recreate this treat at home. Thank goodness for smuckers in helping me with this feat!
