Judah Picking Pineapple

You saw my lengthy previous post on how to dice a pineapple.  Now, go ahead and use this information to dice it up for your baby, if you think he is ready (*see below).  Judah is now almost 10 months old and eating finger foods.  I'm still serving him some purees, as well, but he's getting pretty good at picking up his own food and feeding himself, so I thought I'd let him pick up the diced pineapple on his own.  (Haven't tried letting him spoon feed himself yet, though.  I'll have to wear a poncho that day.)

Checking out the photo above, you'll notice that it was pretty difficult for him to pick up that slimy piece of pineapple with only his forefinger and thumb.  He tried and tried, until I eventually gave in and fed it to him!

And, his reaction?

Oh my!  🙂  He obviously didn't like it, at first.  But, as I mentioned before, don't give up on your little one when he shows he doesn't like a certain food.  Wait and try again, or in my case this time, serve it a different way.  I went ahead and pureed the pineapple, then gave it to him.  His reaction that time?

Priceless!  🙂

*Some parents will prefer to wait to introduce pineapple to their baby until the age of 1 year because of the acidity, but I decided to introduce Judah to pineapple this week because he hasn't had any sensitive reactions to any other food.  I started with a little, to make sure it didn't upset his tummy or give him any rashes.  Additionally, pineapple can be hard for babies to chew, so you want to watch him carefully to make sure he's handling it okay.  If he can't seem to chew it that well, I would suggest pureeing it until he's ready for that next step.
