This slushy punch recipe is a crowd favorite. An easy freezer mixture that makes the best party punch for holiday gatherings!

Every Christmas, we serve this slush punch at our Christmas Vacation gathering. I named it "Mary's Luscious Slush Punch" in theme with the party. But, this punch is perfect for all kinds of celebrations, including baby showers and bridal showers. It is very easy to whip up, store in the freezer, and be ready to stir into the punch bowl.

What is Slush Punch?

Slush punch is a beverage typically served in a large amount at parties. Punch bowls are best, but I've also served it out of a large mason jar beverage dispenser. It has a slushy consistency from being stored in the freezer then combined with a bottle of the lemon-lime soda. Some people like to add a cup of vodka for an adult version, but we keep it kid-friendly here.

If you're looking for some more holiday beverages, try our Orange Pomegranate Fizzy Drink, Kid-Friendly Eggnog, and Peppermint Hot Cocoa recipes.

Ingredients

Our version of this party punch is made of strawberry jello, sugar, pineapple juice, orange juice, lemon juice and lemon-lime soda (such as Sprite). The blend of these flavors is the perfect combination.

Instructions

The total time to make this punch is minimal, considering there is little prep time involved. First, boil the sugar, water and gelatin in a large saucepan on the stove top, then remove from the heat and stir in the juices.

When ready, transfer the containers to the fridge 2 to 5 hours before serving. To serve, mix half the juice with 1 liter of lemon-lime soda. No ice cubes necessary!

Best Tips

  • I find it's easiest to thaw the juice to the right consistency after they've been stored laying flat in the freezer in large freezer bags versus a soup or ice cream container.
  • Thaw the juice only to a slushy consistency. The soda will break it down further in the punch bowl.
  • If there are still large chunks of frozen juice, use a fork to flake the ice to a  slush.
  • Prepare half the punch at a time with half of the frozen juice mixed with 1 liter of soda.
  • Use at least a 6 quart pot, and one that will not stain. (I use my 7 quart stainless steel.)

Variations

You can mix up this recipe by using different flavors of jello, such as cherry or lime. Use other types of fresh juices and sparkling sodas to fit your tastes or color scheme.
