Happy Father's Day!  Let's begin by honoring our fathers with this hysterical video:

This Week on Pennies on a Platter
This section highlights the recipes posted this week on Pennies on a Platter and other updates to the blog, if any.

Father's Day Sugar Cookie and Gift Packaging Tutorial - Use this tutorial to create a gift package for your cookies or any other treats you'd like to give away.

Lemon Scones - Great with your morning tea or coffee.  These are best eaten the day they are made.

Dug Out from the Archives

Let's dig into the archives and reconsider some of the older recipes on Pennies on a Platter that we ate this week. (Some of which I plan to re-post with new photos and better directions in the near future.)

Crunchy Apple Slaw - Since it is summer, this side dish frequents our plates.

Chinese Sundaes - Ben requested this last week, but since his parents were in town we didn't get a chance to have it.  It will probably be added to our meal plan this week.

Caught My Eye
I love reading other blogs and websites, and often bookmark their recipes, products or reviews. These are a few that top my list from the week.

Spicy Mango Black Bean Turkey Burgers - Cara has a great healthy, clean eating blog.  This burger caught my eye this week as I've been wanting to try a turkey burger.  So, as soon as Ben allows us to steer from the usual beef patties, I'm all over this!

My Life as a Pastor's Wife and Food Blogger
Want more insight into my life as a Pastor's wife, mom, friend, relative and food blogger? Then, read on! If not, ignore this section. 🙂 This is a place for me to write what's on my mind and journal some of the crowning moments of my week.

Judah and I took a Mommy & Me class the last three weeks.  Last week we went with the class to the zoo.  My mother-in-law came with us as she was still in town visiting.  It was a very hot day, so the trip wasn't extremely pleasant.  And, the actual zoo itself was kind of a joke.  (I guess that's the best they can do here in the desert.)   We had a good time all in all, but I think Judah's favorite part was feeding the goats.

It’s funny that you mentioned your experience at the zoo--My husband and I lived in El Paso, Texas a couple of years ago (on the border of NM and Mexico) and while my in-laws were visiting we decided to check out the zoo. It was only $5 dollars to get in which seemed rather cheap compared to other zoos we had been to but once we started walking around we realized why. It took us over 30 minutes to see an animal and we only saw a total of 5 animals throughout the entire zoo. Like you said, I guess that’s what you get when you are in the dessert!

I saw that Dad's Life clip this morning and was in tears from laughing. 🙂
