What Is Breakfast Pizza?

You may be as confused as I was when I first heard about breakfast pizza years ago. Eggs on pizza? It seemed so strange! But after trying different versions at various restaurants—some with scrambled eggs, others with a farmhouse-style over-easy egg—I quickly fell in love.

Ingredients

ingredients to make breakfast pizza recipe

This breakfast pizza is topped with scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese. Every ingredient in this recipe is easily found in any grocery store. Most items you'll already have on hand. Here's what you need:

  • Refrigerated pizza dough
  • Olive oil
  • Eggs
  • Half and half (or heavy cream or milk)
  • Butter
  • Bacon bits
  • Shredded cheese

The half and half and butter are used to make the scrambled eggs, but you can make your scrambled eggs any way you like and not need these items. We also buy the real bacon pieces, not the scary artificial bacon bits. Or, you can cook and crumble bacon strips if you prefer. And choose your favorite type of cheese!

How to Make Breakfast Pizza

For our version of breakfast pizza, we start with refrigerated pizza dough. The convenience of pre-made dough allows for my teenage son to easily make this recipe! He can also scramble the eggs and then sprinkle on the cheese and bacon. This breakfast pizza recipe is so simple!

Scroll to the bottom of this post for the full detailed instructions and ingredients. The short version is as follows:

  1. Pre-bake the pizza dough in a large rimmed baking sheet.

  2. Meanwhile, scramble the eggs.

  3. Top pre-baked crust with the scrambled eggs, bacon and cheese.

Easy Breakfast Pizza

Pizza for breakfast? Yes, please! This breakfast pizza recipe comes together in no time using refrigerated pizza crust and pre-cooked bacon!

Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American

Servings: 6 servings

Ingredients

  • 13.8 oz. tube refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons half and half (or heavy cream, milk or water)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • Salt and pepper , to taste
  • 3 oz. package real bacon bits
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese (or your favorite kind) , more or less to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400F. Lightly grease a 15x10-inch rimmed baking sheet. Open the tube of dough and unroll onto the bottom of the baking sheet, pressing to reach ½-inch up the sides of the pan. Prick dough with a fork; brush with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Place in the oven and pre-bake crust for 8 minutes.
  • While the crust is pre-baking, prepare the eggs. In a small bowl, whisk the eggs with half and half. Heat 1 tablespoon butter in a nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the eggs and cook until scrambled; stirring frequently. Remove from heat; lightly season with salt and pepper.
  • Remove crust from oven and spoon eggs evenly over top, leaving a ½-inch edge of crust. Sprinkle with bacon and cheese. Bake 6 to 8 minutes, or until cheese is melted and crust is golden.
  • Transfer pizza to a cutting board. Slice and serve.

Notes

  • For a thinner crust, use a slightly larger baking pan.
  • You might not use all of the bacon bits. I typically usually just use half of the package.
  • Try other favorite breakfast toppings like cooked and crumbled sausage or diced ham.
  • If you do not have a 15x10-inch rimmed baking dish, you can use a pizza pan or other large baking dish.
